Valerie Owen holds a personal Main Board NED appointment with Places for People Group the largest housing and regeneration group in the UK. Valerie is also Vice Chair of Walker Riverside project board. Walker Riverside is a joint regeneration project between Newcastle City Council and Places for People Group. It is one of the Sustainable Communities Plan ‘flagship’ Housing Market Renewal Projects, where £400M is being invested, and it is also a Design Code pilot project. 80% of the new homes will be for private open market sale.

Pioneering work on new funding models, to help increase access to housing by essential workers.

Public Health

Valerie Owen holds a personal Main Board appointment at Barts and The NHS Trust, a world class teaching hospital working in the most disadvantage area in the UK, which is just embarking on a major PFI project - the largestin the country. The Trust has a turn-over of c£450M pa and around 4,500 staff. Valerie is knowledgeable on health policy.

Recent Le Vaillant Owen reports include A health check - Improving PFI Procurement, (London First 2004) Best practice guidance on attracting essential private sector investment into the health service, and The Company Doctor - A Wellness Index for Business (London First 2005). A new benchmarking tool to help improve employee wellbeing. This work was cited as an example of ‘Best Practice’ in the Public Health White paper, ‘Choosing Health’ published in 2004. The Company Doctor - A Wellness Index for Business was launched by Rosie Winterton, Minister for Health Services, in November 2005. Le Vaillant Owen is assisting Sustainable Communities Kent NHS LIFT procure high quality design primary care buildings in Ashford, Maidstone and Dartford, Kent, on behalf of CABE.
